Shape scanning at the push of a button
The optical scanner SCAN3D acquires a series of 3D measurements
from different directions automatically (2 or 5 axes are available). Measurement
is based on the fringe projection principle. The resulting shape data are
available in common triangle mesh formats. Because of its usability it is
perfectly suited for applications in:

- Reverse engineering

- Medical engineering

- Measuring works of art

- Mold making

Fine registration ensures that the 3D scans are precisely aligned with each other. The 3D measurements are converted into triangle meshes and cleaned of noise, aliasing and outlier points. Next, the meshes for the different views are merged into a single surface description. Finally, any gaps that are present are closed using interpolation in a fully automated process, and a curvature-dependent mesh thinning is carried out.
The software offers users various display, evaluation and editing options.

Measurement Principle
SCAN3D is an optical sensor based on coded illumination. Measurement is based on a patented process that involves
illuminating the surface of the measured object with a fringe pattern. A camera observes the illuminated object from the side. The surface shape of the object is calculated according to the resulting displacement of the fringes.

the image on the right will download a video demonstrating automatic 3D
measurement of a toy horse head. The object
is measured from different directions. Afterwards a triangle
mesh with curvature-dependent density is calculated automatically
using SLIM3D and visualized by 3DViewer. |
